Creative Director Jess Sullivan filed this report last summer on her photo shoot for the BBQ cookbook, Grilling with House of Q:
“The last two weeks we’ve been busy at work on the photography for Grilling with House of Q by BBQ Brian Misko. We had fantastic weather, an amazing location thanks to homeowner Karen, great food thanks to Brian and his wife Corinne, and the very talented and thoroughly enjoyable photographer Kevin Clark on set to make it all come together. I really could not have asked for a better team of people to tackle the enormous task we had ahead of us. Now on the other side of the mountain, there are nothing but happy memories, stunning images for the book and, well, a very sore back…”
At times it was very difficult to work this close to a pool. The sounds of the hot tub fountain seemed to be calling my name.
As I said, the location was fantastic. A photoshoot makes a lot of mess. We thank the homeowner very much for her patience with our clutter.
Set up in full swing.
I would highly recommend making these . . . crabbed stuffed peppers . . . needless to say we ate a lot of food, and wait until you see this final shot.
A book designer can’t walk past something like this day after day and not take a quick snap.
Setting up for more shots on the grill. Photographer Kevin Clark and BBQ master Brian hard at work.
Bacon wrapped, cheese stuffed ‘hot dogs.’ Need I say more?
A little bit of acrobatics, some experimentation and what men seem programmed to do—make fire. Capturing some additional effects to bring home the perfect photo.
