Deal Announcement: “Where the Power Is: Indigenous Perspectives on Northwest Coast Art”

Where the Power Is: Indigenous Perspectives on Northwest Coast Art edited by Karen Duffek, Bill McLennan, and Jordan Wilson is in collaboration with the Museum of Anthropology. Over thirty Northwest Coast First Nations artists and knowledge holders reconnect with over 100 works from their communities, many of which have only recently returned to BC through a bequest by collector Elspeth McConnell. In offering their thoughts on the many and shifting roles of these objects–as belongings, teachers, beautiful artworks, legal documents–these contributors highlight the cultural practices embodied by these objects, the complex history of collecting cultural property, and the value of collaboration to bring new perspectives to this powerful art. Releasing spring 2021.
