Steve Cameron named publisher of Figure 1 Publishing

Figure 1 is pleased to announce that Steve Cameron will succeed Chris Labonté in the role of publisher, taking over daily publishing operations at the company.

In his new role as publisher, Cameron will continue to expand Figure 1’s program of titles spanning art and photography, Indigenous art and culture, architecture and design, and food and drink.

“I’m excited to continue the work we are doing in building one of the best illustrated book publishing companies in North America,” says Cameron. “It is an honor to work with such a dynamic and talented group of professionals, and I can’t wait to see what we will accomplish together.” Cameron will also remain in the role of vice president at Figure 1.

A publishing veteran of over two decades, Cameron was previously editorial director at Firefly Books, where he led publishing projects for institutions like the Hockey Hall of Fame and the National Film Board of Canada. Cameron joined Figure 1 as senior editor in May of 2021, and became a co-owner and associate publisher of the company the following year.

Chris Labonté, who co-founded Figure 1 in 2012, will continue on as president, with an increased focus on business strategy. “I am excited to see where Steve takes our publishing program,” says Labonté. “With day-to-day publishing in his very capable hands, I will have more time to develop new initiatives and seek opportunities to grow our business.”
