Diane Gistal
Diane Gistal is an independent curator of Haitian-French origin based in Canada. Through her practice, she interrogates the dynamics of the Black Atlantic and the processes of constructing cultural narratives, exploring the intersections between the visual arts, literature, and the humanities. Her work unfolds through exhibitions, research programs, and curatorial initiatives that reactivate the memory, archive, and practices of artistic resistance of African and Afrodescendant diasporas. She is the founder and director of Nigra Iuventa, an organization dedicated to the recognition and promotion of African, Caribbean, and diasporic visual arts. Nigra Iuventa is a laboratory for curatorial reflection and experimentation, rooted in a decolonial and critical approach to cultural institutions. The organization works to support the creation, circulation, and preservation of works by Black artists by promoting transnational dialogues between Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, and North America.
Diane Gistal est une commissaire indépendante d’origine haïtienne et française basée au Canada. À travers sa pratique, elle interroge les dynamiques de l’Atlantique noir et les processus de construction de récits culturels, explorant les intersections entre les arts visuels, la littérature et les sciences humaines. Son œuvre se déploie à travers des expositions, des programmes de recherche et des initiatives curatoriales qui réactivent la mémoire, les archives et les pratiques de résistance artistique des diasporas africaines et afrodescendantes. Elle est la fondatrice et la directrice de Nigra Iuventa, une organisation dédiée à la reconnaissance et à la promotion des arts visuels africains, caribéens et diasporiques. Nigra Iuventa est un laboratoire de réflexion et d’expérimentation curatoriale ancré dans une approche décoloniale et critique des institutions culturelles. L’organisation soutient la création, la circulation et la préservation des œuvres d’artistes noir·e·s en encourageant les dialogues transnationaux entre l’Afrique, les Caraïbes, l’Europe et l’Amérique du Nord.
